...A woman near me was hit in the face with a fragment and she started bleeding immediately. There wasn't an ambulance nearby, so people were taking the wounded in their own cars. Having gone down, we saw that the bridge had been blocked by armored vehicles. Walking along the bridge, we heard a terrible explosion and the windows of the neighboring houses started to shatter. On the grounds, the shooting didn't stop. People from Druskininkai sullenly began to gather by their bus from the tower. We knew that there were victims.

A green flare was shot over the tower around 4 a.m. It was clear that the paratroopers had taken over the tower. Not a single person by the tower was holding even a stone. The sole weapon was the chant: „Free Lithuania!"
