We heard tank shots and rushed to get dressed. Crowds of people were running by our house. Guns were thundering and it seemed like our block house would collapse. Smoke screens began to come from Cosmonaut Prospect. They made a terrible stench. We covered our mouths with handkerchiefs, others used scarves. When the first tanks appeared (from the direction of the Neris) we saw that teenagers were hanging onto them, and a group of men joined hands and stood in front of the barricade. And only when the first tank was a few steps from them did the men make way. One brave man in a leather jacket jumped onto the tank. We watched, and it seemed like it was a dream or some nightmare. The man in the leather jacket rolled from the tank. I don't know if it was his legs or someone else's that were crushed then.
