At about 1:30 on the night of January 12-13, 1991,l noticed through the window that a long column of tanks was advancing from Žvėrynas towards Karoliniškės. Armored vehicles were approaching from the direction of Viršuliškės. There were about 50 tanks and armored vehicles in all. In front of the store „Kometa" smoke screens were emitted and the first tank shot resounded. When I ran to the TV tower, a tank smashed a sand truck on the left and without stopping crushed a car. At the time, some man was lying by a car. He was immediately carried to an ambulance. I can't say if he was alive or dead. The tanks started up the slope, towards the tower. One man stood in the way of the tank, but it continued to crawl. Then the man lay down. The tank stopped. An officer appeared from inside the tank, looked around, and with his hand, gave the sign to move forward. The tank moved and ran over the man. I'm not sure whether the tank ran over his legs or over his entire body, as it was very dark and the tanks' searchlights were blinding. Then sub-machine guns and tank guns began to fire. As far as I can remember, the tanks fired about six series. The sub-machine guns fired tracer bullets.
A young man with a bandaged head was running from the tower. His temples were bleeding. He was in a state of shock, so we couldn't get any information from him. Soon after, two men were carried over from the armed side and laid on the grass. One of the men was about 28 years old. The other man seemed very young. There were three holes in his stomach.
