We were in Vilnius by the television tower. At about 2 o'clock in the morning, tanks rolled within maybe 3 meters of us. I saw the paratroopers load their tommy-guns, and after maybe 5 or 7 seconds, they came out of the tanks. Without any warning, they aimed at us. The first shot was a „blank" (my face was sprinkled with „ashes"), but they fired at the windows with real cartridges. I watched as they beat people with the butts of their guns. I watched as they broke the windows of the tower with their weapons. The explosions over our heads were completely deafening, and we were blown aside by the impact... When I came round, I saw a lot of wounded. I helped carry a dead person away (I don't know his name.)
There were also a lot of wounded people in the street behind the grounds of the television tower, but the tanks that were blocking the streets wouldn't let any ambulances by. So they loaded the injured people into private cars, and took them in a round-about way from the area...
