My son Arvydas (22 years old) and I ran to the tower when the tanks were below to block the people by Cosmonaut Prospect. We watched as a gun broke the windows of a bus, fired and threatened the people. Heavy T-72 tanks were approaching from the direction of the Neris river. About 3 minutes after getting out of the vehicles, the paratroopers began to shoot, and I watched as water poured out of the tower. Going into the tower, the soldiers fired through the first floor windows. I started to speak, to ask a soldier not to shoot the people. He immediately shot at the ground. I stepped back a few meters and noticed that tanks were already pushing people into the yard. A woman of 40 or 45 who was standing near me also began to ask them not to shoot. Immediately, they started beating her with a green stick on her head and shoulders. People took the woman by the arms and led her - or maybe it's more accurate to say dragged her - away. I noticed that before the shooting there were about 15 young people inside the tower.
I stayed by the tower until 5:30 in the morning. I'm certain that those young people didn't leave through the door. The entire time, whenever a light came on in a window, it was put out by shooting. My son saw a woman thrown out of a third floor window. She was carried to an ambulance.
