When shots began to thunder we ran out of the house, still getting dressed on the way. People were running from other houses. The tower was already right there. And suddenly there were shots - one after another, from tanks. Our ears began to ring from that sound and we were thrown aside. Windows were shattering and people were shouting: “Lithuania! Fascists!" Sub-machine guns were crackling. We ran closer to the tanks. One was maneuvering and turned to the side. Across the way there was a policeman. His face was bloody and his hand was bleeding. I asked: “What can I do to help?" He said: “Nothing." One woman offered him some iodine, someone else gave him a handkerchief.
