...The tanks had hardly passed when shouts were heard from the direction of the Sudervė bridge: “There's a person under the tanks!" We immediately turned the ambulance in that direction, and we saw a wounded person being carried 20 or 30 meters away. We lifted him into the ambulance, and he was already in agony. He had been badly injured - his leg had almost been torn away, there was a blue patch on his stomach (I suspect his liver had been ruptured), and his head had been wounded. We weren't able to save him. Some young guy stopped by the ambulance and excitedly explained: „You see, this person was standing on a sand truck which was on the road to the tower, and when the tank moved, he got caught under its tracks!" Later I found out that the person who had died was Algimantas Kavoliukas. We helped out another wounded person named Gradauskas - he was a student of Kaunas Technological University who had been shot in both legs. The front door of our ambulance was constantly being opened by people who hadn't been seriously wounded: paratroopers whose heads had been wounded by some stick, a great number of people whose faces had been cut by glass, and people who had suffered from acoustic traumas.
