People were singing and dancing by the tower until 1:30 am. Then a siren sounded. Tanks moved towards th tower. The people surrounded the tower. The tanks began... to shoot. It was terrible. People were singing hymns. The tanks were followed by vehicles which soldiers jumped out of. The soldiers hit people in the head with the butts of their guns, not caring if they were women or children. Gun shots resounded. The crowd chanted: “Lithuania, Lithuania!"
