At first they were firing blanks. Pieces of broken glass started falling on our heads. Slowly we began to move back because it was explained that now they were using real cartridges. Some¬one cried out „Gas!" We moved further back. Nearby, smoke bombs were falling, but they didn't explode. We were already going down the slope when a proclamation was read in the name of the National Salvation Committee, but it was hard to understand its point. Below, a tank was turning its barrel, aiming at the withdrawing people. All around you could hear shouting: “Doctor!" „Ambulance!"
