A grey-haired, mustached officer cried out „vperiod v ataku!" („Forward! Attack!"), and was the first to start beating people over the head with a rod that was covered with leather. „Vzryv" (explosive) packets began to explode in the crowd some 2 meters away from me. Soldiers were beating people over the heads with the butts of their guns, completely indifferent to whether they were beating old people or young people, women or children. A woman to my right and a man to my left got hit in the forehead. Nearby, someone fell down from the explosion of a „vzryv" packet. Confusion began to grow. The people dispersed. The soldiers started to break the windows of the tower with the butts of their guns. You could hear shooting in the tower. Up until then, you could only hear machine-gun fire around the tower. The crowd withdrew a bit from the tower. While moving back, I saw a man lying on the ground. People carried him towards an ambulance.
