... not far from me I saw a young guy fall down, hit by a bullet. I watched as a tank roared into a crowd of people, and windows shattered after a volley of tank fire and fell on people's heads. Women as well as men stood there, dignified, even though machine gun barrels were pointed at them. After the attack, I watched as the crowd slowly moved away from the occupied tower while paratroopers shot at their feet.

When I came down from the embankment, I saw that our “Latvia" mini-bus was without windows and its roof was crushed. I watched as a tank, turning its barrel, broke the window and fender of a Pavenčiai state auto-transport enterprise bus. I saw a tankman, pulling out after the “operation", sit on the tower of his tank, load his gun, and turn to the people shouted: „Streliatj budu!" („I'll shoot!") And the brave, unarmed Lithuanians said: „Streliaj..." (..Shoot...") But the hand of that cursed soldier only dared to fire into the air...
