On January 11, l went to the Press House after hearing the appeal on the radio for people to gather there. As I went along Justiniškių Street, I heard a volley of machine-gun fire. When I came up to the entrance, I saw that the soldiers were already inside and were barricading the door with desks and chairs. The people, standing in a semi-circle, were chanting: „Lithuania, Lithuania!", and the infuriated soldiers were threatening the people standing closest to them with the butts of their guns, shouting: „Ubju!" („I'll kill you!").
