A group of us from Kupiškis came to guard the Lithuanian RTV Center on the night of January 12th. We stood right by the main entrance of the building. When the attack began, we were stormed by paratroopers and „Jedinstvo" members who were armed with sticks. Standing closer to them was Algis Burkšas from Noriūnai, who jumped over to save a woman from being beaten by a paratrooper. He pulled her over to him and got clubbed in the neck himself. He began to bleed, and then they rushed over to hit him with rubber sticks. Everything seemed to happen in a flash - you rush over to save someone and you get hit yourself... Once the building was taken over, they began to chase people on the grounds with tanks. I nearly got caught under one of them. But suddenly a light tank stopped and a young soldier got out. He looked so frightened, I felt sorry for him. Having seen one human face among the brutal officers, I have a bit of hope...
